Just over 23 years ago, I was in a hospital holding my
little baby brother. Well, “little” might be stretching the truth a little
since he weighed in at 12 whopping pounds upon birth. “Baby” isn’t stretching a
thing. He would be the last sibling, but I guess someone has to take on that
very challenging task…
Today that “little” baby brother is 6 foot 3 and 200+ pounds
of sheer muscle. He’s a college grad, drives a red truck as big as himself and
has been sworn in as Lt. S. Caleb Sturm – United States Marine Corps. I’m so
happy we could journey out to Indiana to watch that baby I once held now stand
proud as a defender of this great country. As he stated on his Facebook page:
Countless rejected applications. Five years in the Marine Corps
Reserves. Three months in boot camp. One month at MCT. 8 months at MOS school.
12 weeks at OCS. Countless drills and PT sessions. Four years at Purdue. Thousands
of dollars in tuition and textbooks. And even a run in with cancer thrown in
there for fun.
Everything was 100% worth it to
have my big brother salute me and call me "sir". Thanks again Daniel Sturm.
As your eldest sibling, Bud, I wish as always that I could
impart some great wisdom, but I’m simply not that wise. And just don’t know how
to be a good sister most of the time. But, I love you and I’m proud of you.
Semper fi!
Lt. S. Caleb Sturm, United States Marine Corps
The brothers – Daniel and Caleb
The proud parents – Mom, Dad and Caleb
